Fly from KL to Kota Kinabalu and transfer to your waterfront hotel. Explore the Filipino Market for pearls and handicrafts. Walk the Esplanade at sunset, then hit the night market for grilled fish and Hinava raw fish salad.
Drive to UNESCO-listed Kinabalu Park and hike lower trails through pitcher plants and wild orchids beneath the 4,095-metre granite summit. Lunch at a Kundasang hilltop restaurant with valley views, then visit Desa Dairy Farm. Return to KK.
Fly to Sandakan and drive to your riverside eco-lodge on stilts above the Kinabatangan. Late afternoon wildlife cruise spotting proboscis monkeys, macaques and hornbills. Dinner as the jungle chorus begins.
Dawn cruise when the river is most active, with your naturalist guide tracking orangutans and pygmy elephants. Guided jungle walk to an oxbow lake. Second sunset cruise and spotlight night safari for slow lorises, civets and flying lemurs.
Morning feeding session at Sepilok as semi-wild orangutans descend from the canopy. Walk next door to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre to see rescued bears in forested enclosures. Afternoon flight back to Kota Kinabalu.
Speedboat to the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. Morning snorkelling off Sapi Island over staghorn coral with clownfish and blue-spotted rays. Lunch on Manukan Island's beach, then farewell dinner at a KK harbour seafood restaurant.
Final breakfast at the hotel and transfer to KK airport. We can add Sipadan diving, a Danum Valley rainforest extension or beach days on the Tip of Borneo if you want to keep going.
